Casablanca – Rabat – Meknes
Upon your arrival in Casablanca or pick-up from your hotel, our adventure begins with a visit to the iconic Hassan II Mosque, a symbol of Casablanca and the only mosque open to non-Muslims. This architectural marvel serves as an introduction to the Moorish influences prevalent throughout Morocco. Built by King Hassan II between 1987 and 1993, the mosque can accommodate over 25,000 worshippers inside and an additional 80,000 in its expansive square.
Continuing our journey, we travel to Rabat, where history and beauty converge. Explore the enchanting Chellah, a picturesque site showcasing a captivating blend of Roman and Merinid remnants. Visit the awe-inspiring unfinished Hassan Tower and the majestic Mausoleum of Mohamed V, true masterpieces of Moroccan craftsmanship.
Day 2
Meknes – Volubilis – Fez
The next morning, after indulging in a delightful breakfast, we embark on our exploration of Meknes, starting with a visit to the impressive granary, Sahrij Swani. This architectural marvel served as a vital storage facility for food and water, catering to the needs of the formidable “black Army” of Sultan Moulay Ismael. Delve into history as we explore the mausoleum of the sultan, adorned in exquisite Arab-Andalusian style, offering a glimpse into Morocco’s rich cultural heritage. Our journey continues with a visit to the magnificent Bab Mansour gate, a true testament to the grandeur of Meknes.
Venturing just 30 kilometers from Meknes, we arrive at the captivating archaeological site of Volubilis. This well-preserved Roman marvel, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, boasts astonishing mosaics, hundreds of Latin inscriptions, and an array of artistic materials, offering a fascinating insight into ancient Roman civilization.
Day 3
Fez
After breakfast, you’ll rendezvous with our local guide of Fez; together, you’ll delve into the ancient medieval medina of Fez, the first imperial city. A true labyrinthine maze comprising over 9000 alleyways, Fez rightfully earns its title as the intellectual and cultural capital of the kingdom. Immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of daily life as you navigate through the bustling streets, mingling with the locals amidst a kaleidoscope of goods, colors, and donkeys laden with merchandise.
Feast your eyes on an array of handcrafted treasures, as Fez reigns supreme as the epicenter of traditional craftsmanship, preserving ancient techniques and materials. Witness the renowned tanneries of Fez, a highlight of the tour, where locals skillfully work on hides of goat, lamb, camel, and cow in small pits.
Savor the flavors of Fez cuisine with indulgent dishes unique to the region. Ascend to the southern tower of Fez for a panoramic view of the city, or venture to the pottery cooperative, where artisans meticulously craft intricate tiles and Moroccan mosaics.
Day 4
Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga
Our path takes us through the majestic Middle Atlas Mountains, where we’ll pause for a brief respite in Ifrane, often dubbed the “small Switzerland” for its picturesque scenery and status as Morocco’s first ski resort. As we traverse this breathtaking landscape of mountains and plains, keep an eye out for the remarkable native monkeys known as Barbary macaques, who inhabit the cedar forests of Azrou in family groups of over 30 members.
Our journey continues with a stop for lunch in Midelt, a town renowned for its annual celebration of the apple festival. Here, amidst the contrasting landscapes, we’ll savor a delightful meal before pressing onward through the scenic Ziz Valley, a route that leads us to Erfoud, the gateway to the Sahara. Our final destination for the day is Merzouga, where the endless expanse of the desert beckons, promising an unforgettable adventure amidst the dunes of the Sahara.
Day 5
Merzouga – Tinjhdad – Toudra – Dades Valley – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we bid farewell to the mesmerizing Sahara and set our sights on exploring the ancient irrigation system still utilized in the oasis of Eljerf. Along the way, we’ll pause for a refreshing break in Tinjidad, taking in the beauty of our surroundings before continuing our journey.
Our lunch awaits us in the picturesque valley of Toudra, renowned as one of the oldest trading routes in Morocco and the birthplace of the nation’s first currency, crafted from silver. Here, amidst the lush expanse of date palms spanning 15 kilometers, we’ll be treated to a delightful meal, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the valley culminating in spectacular gorges, perfect for rock climbing and idyllic picnics.
As we embark on the Dades Valley, prepare to be awestruck by the astonishing rock formations sculpted over millions of years by the forces of erosion. Our journey continues through the enchanting Rose Valley, the sole location in Morocco where the revered Damascus rose is cultivated. Here, we harvest this precious flower to extract products such as rose water and rose oil, cherished for their rejuvenating properties and anti-wrinkle benefits.
Tonight, we find rest and relaxation in Ouarzazate, reflecting on the wonders of the day and eagerly anticipating the adventures that lie ahead in this captivating region of Morocco.
Day 6
Ait Ben Haddou – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
The next morning, our exploration of this cinematic city begins with two remarkable sites. First, we visit the Taourirte Kasbah, a stunning example of Berber architecture crafted from clay and straw, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Next, we tour the cinema studio, immersing ourselves in the magic of the silver screen and discovering the behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking.
Upon our arrival in the village of Ait Ben Haddou, we embark on a captivating walk through its ancient streets, steeped in history and adorned with tales of cinematic glory. This UNESCO-listed site has served as the backdrop for countless iconic films, from “Lawrence of Arabia” to “Gladiator,” making it a true testament to the enduring allure of the silver screen.
Continuing our journey, we make our way to the imposing Telouet Kasbah, a fortified stronghold built by the legendary lord of the Atlas, Thami Pasha. Once a bustling trading center for caravans, this magnificent fortress stands as a symbol of power and resilience amidst the rugged landscape.
As we travel north through the High Atlas Mountains via the breathtaking Tizi-n-Tichka pass, we’re treated to awe-inspiring vistas of crimson-hued mountains and charming Berber villages dotting the landscape. Day 7
Marrakech
For our city tour of Marrakech, you’ll be accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide who will lead you on an unforgettable journey through the vibrant streets and historic landmarks of this captivating city. Our first stop is the magnificent Bahia Palace, commissioned by Bahmad, the Grand Vizier of Marrakech. Admire the intricate mosaics and stucco work as you hear fascinating tales of the palace’s history, including stories of Bahmad’s four wives and his legendary 24 concubines.
Next, we’ll marvel at the extraordinary architecture of the Saadian Tombs, a royal necropolis dating back to the 17th century, where the grandeur of Morocco’s past comes to life before your eyes.
